SCI YOUTH CONFERENCE SELECTEE 
 
The  NORCAL Youth Conference Selection Committee consisting of Teena Miller, Chair, and Abby Duran, Bobbie Landers, and Leonor Urbain selected Ms. Samantha Serraron of Vallejo as our student who will be attending the SCI Youth  Leadership Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. NORCAL pays the registration fee which includes lodging at the University of New Mexico for five nights, meals, daily programs, and excursions, receptions and and social events during the conference. The youth will then make a presentation at the Annual Conference in October. Ms. Tracy Wong was the alternate selectee.

The application period has closed for 2010. The fundamental information for becoming a Youth Conference Selectee follows below and should be utilized to prepare for the 2011 program.

2010 YOUTH SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION


Join other young Citizen Diplomats from around the world at the Sister Cities International Conference in Albuquerque,New Mexico,from July 27 to August 1, 2010. The 2010 SCI youth conference entitled Community Diplomacy and Your World, will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Those youth delegates attending will:
    Meet young people from around the world;
    Learn how youth can improve their own Sister City and community;
    Work with other youth delegates on a community service project;
    Share their community’s culture with fellow delegates;
    Build leadership skills for an increasingly connected world;
    Learn how to make the Sister Cities International mission of Peace through People, a reality.
    Explore Albuquerque's History and Culture

DETAILS OF SPONSORSHIP

Participants must be between 15 and 18 years of age (comprising high school sophomores to recently graduated seniors). Participants do not need a chaperone to attend.

NORCAL sponsorship will pay the $500 registration fee, which includes: Lodging, Meals, daily Programs and Activities (including transportation & entry fees for any offsite activities, plus a formal Dinner/Dance.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE SPONSORSHIP: round trip airfare, transportation to and from the airport, spending money and insurance. Additional costs will need to be raised by the student, their supporters and/or their local Sister City organization. Parental Travel Permission Authorization and Consent is required for all students wishing to participate in the Sister Cities International Youth Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, July 27 to August 1st, 2010.

I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY CHILD'S PARTICIPATION IN THE ABOVE TRAVEL ACTIVITIES AND INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL FROM ANY CLAIMS AND/OR LIABILITIES ARISING FROM MY CHILD'S PARTICIPATION. I AGREE, BY SIGNING THIS DOCUMENT, THAT MY CHILD WILL BE ATTENDING THE ABOVE ANNUAL CONFERENCE

In return for NORCAL sponsorship, the selected student must plan to attend NORCAL’s 2010 conference (location to be determined in Northern California) to present a report on their experiences at the Conference and what they learned and/or accomplished as a result of the event.

Send a resume that includes the following:
1.    Your personal information (Name, Address, Tel. No., etc.)
2.    What experience(s) have you had with your local Sister City?
3.    How would attending this Youth Conference enhance your Sister City experience?
4.    What would you hope to accomplish by attending
5.    A small photograph of the applicant must be attached, either wallet size or a 4x6 size.
All Applications will become the property of NORCAL and as such will not be returned to the applicant.
